ReplyDeleteMy favourite applique techique is needleturning. Love how the motifs pop out this way.
ReplyDeleteI am already a happy follower! Thanks for the lovely tuto.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway. Don't really applique much but when I doit is with blanket stitch
ReplyDeleteLike the 5"squares because I use a lot of 5" charms

ReplyDeleteI am in love with your tutorial. Your Christmas Tree design is spectacular. Love, love, love it.

That is the most beautiful tree. I love the AccuQuilt tumble die.
ReplyDeleteWhile I use raw edge for quick projects I really enjoy hand turned appliqué.
ReplyDeleteI am now a humble follower of your blog.
ReplyDeleteI love the butterfly and heart dies.
ReplyDeleteLeona
I am learning to digitize so love to experiment with appliqué using my embroidery machine.

ReplyDeleteI am only just learning to applique so it's all a bit new. I prefer doing blanket stitch as I find needle turn really hard to master. My favourite die is the hexie, I use it to make hexies from my scrap. Linda
ReplyDeleteOops think I should have split that into two comments...well I also like my HST die..LOL.
ReplyDeleteI am a follower.
ReplyDeleteMy fav die is the 2 1/2" strip as I find I can use for so many quilt patterns, thanks.
ReplyDeleteI don't do any hand applique yet so use the blanket stitch on my machine usually, thanks.
ReplyDeleteI follow your blog -- that tree is so cute.
ReplyDeleteI subscribe to your posts.
ReplyDeleteI am so new to applique that I don't have a favorite technique yet.
ReplyDeleteI would think those feathers are the best - especially with what you created. Just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI love your feather Christmas tree tutorial. I now have a great desire for an Acuquilt.
ReplyDeleteI am a new follower! Looking for to reading your blogs!
ReplyDeleteThe tree is so beautiful and the tutorial is excellent! My favorite applique method is to use fusible web and then do a blanket stitch with my sewing machine, suggab
ReplyDeleteI am a new follower and love what I see! Can't wait for your next post!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite die would have to be the feather...now that I've seen what a beautiful tree can be created from it! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI only do machine applique but I never thought about doing the quilting as part of stitching down the pieces so thanks for the idea! thanks for a gorgeous project and a great giveaway
ReplyDeleteI think the best die is the 2 1/2" strips and that is because I use it for binding strips. Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteThis tree is the cutest thing I've seen using the Accuquilt dies - I love it! I've used almost every applique technique but my favorite is needle turn if I'm doing it by hand, the blanket stitch if it's wool, and machine applique for the quick, easy projects. Sorry - couldn't choose just one! blessings, marlene
ReplyDeleteThe best thing about Accuquilt for me is the ease - I have arthritis in my hands so this makes a huge difference in what I can get done. blessings, marlene
ReplyDeleteLike to hand applique but machine is faster. Your tree is absolutely stunning!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOMG, that is GORGEOUS! Red/white are my favorites, anytime of year!! That's the cutest thing I've seen using the AccuQuilt dies or anything else! My favorite applique techinque (right now) would be the blanket stitch. I'm getting ready to learn needleturn applique though (I hope!)
ReplyDeleteI love lots of the dies, but my favorite right now would be the circle die. I keep finding more & more uses for it make little things things for Christmas (pincushions, ornament finishing, coasters, etc). But I also love ALL the dies for applique - it's too hard to choose just one.
ReplyDeleteI'm now a follower of your blog!
ReplyDeleteI have subscribed to your posts. I would so love to win the pre-cuts!! Thanks for the chances!!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas!!
that TREE is AWESOME!! I was JUST about to make a LIST of wish list dies for my husband- WHO hasn't bought anything for me for christmas yet! THESE 2 are on my list now!!
ReplyDeleteI'm a follower
ReplyDeleteI love two different kinds of applique, I love needle turn but after getting the go I love to iron on appliques and using a button hole stitch!
ReplyDeleteso far the die I have that I use the most is the circle die- so versatile
ReplyDeleteI like to use starch and templates to make my applique pieces, and then stitch them down to the main piece. I am working now on circles, but I have another quilt's templates cut, just havn't got the quilt cut and ready..yet. I don't count that in my WIPs yet.
ReplyDeleteWell I would have said Ring of Oak, but after seeing this, I have to change my mind to Feathers!! WOWZA. I love this!
ReplyDeleteI am a follower of your blog.
ReplyDeleteI subscribed to your blog posts.
ReplyDeleteI really like the raw edge applique but I am such a traditionalist, it stands to reason. I have taught myself two methods of needle turn applique and it is okay and very nice but for most of my quilts the raw edge works great.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if it is necessarily the best but it seems to be quite diversified so I choose the Heather Feather Die

ReplyDeleteI'm following....the Christmas tree wall hanging is stunning!
ReplyDeleteWOW! What a beautiful tree and tutorial! self taught and new to quilting this year, so this just blows me away! Found your blog only yesterday and signed up as a "follower"!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite applique technique is the one that I currently use- fusible Pellon! (Have not attempted any other technique, so I hope that doesn't count against me! ;) )
I would have to say that my favorite die cut for AccuQuilt (which I do not own at this time) would be the 2 1/2 inch strip- must save lots of time cutting!
ReplyDeleteUntil I read this tutorial, never understood the need for freezer paper in quilting- thanks for explaining that! just subsribed via Google Reader also.
ReplyDeleteI subscribed to posts from your blog
ReplyDeleteI have been wanting to try applique for the longest time and plan too very soon....by machine is what I plan to try first.
ReplyDeleteTHat is a gorgeous tree! How creative! I'd love the kit and die!
ReplyDeleteWhen I do applique it is usually needle turn..I"m not very proficient at it yet, but I do enjoy it.
The best die would be anything with curves...those would be so time consuming to do any other way, templates or cutting by hand. I like my perfect circles, my curvatious drunkards path etc... :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a follower.
ReplyDeleteThe set of strip cutting dies would be my first choice of dies. So many things can be done with strips that speed up work....would be cut easier and more accurately!

ReplyDeleteI enjoy needle turn applique.
ReplyDeleteI am following.
ReplyDeleteWow. What a beautiful tree and wonderful tutorial. Thank you so much.
ReplyDeleteI must honestly say that I can't answer your first question very well. I'm still new enough at coming back to sewing and in learning to quilt that I have done any applique other than with my machine embroidery designs. I'm very much looking forward to overcoming my fear of applique (and paper piecing too) in 2012.
Anyway, because of the lack of knowledge about applique and the different techniques involved, I can't give you an answer about which might be my favorite technique.
Your 'feather' tree is stunning!
ReplyDeleteI like machine applique, either with invisible thread or co-ordinating thread.
Since I use the tumbler die a lot, that is my favorite right now:)
ReplyDeleteI follow your blog
ReplyDeleteThe Accuquilt Go Die that I feel is the best is all of them :) Seriously though, I think that those which are cutting fabrics on the bias are best done using the Accuquilt Go because it lessons the chance of me stretching the bias on that piece. One that I really like because it can be hard/time consuming to cut, although I don't own it would be the hexagon die.
ReplyDeleteI'm a new follower to your blog. I can't wait to look around more because if this tree tutorial is any example of your other tutorials then I will be back often.
ReplyDeleteI've also just subscribed to your post via Google Reader.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see an option to subscribe via email as well but don't see that. If I've missed that I'd love to know. Thank you
I hope you and your famliy have a wonderful holiday season.
I follow your blog!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite applique technique is the one where the pieces are faced and turned. Sometimes I use tulle, sometimes the same fabric when I want to "puff it up some" and make more of a fabric relief ensemble, and sometimes I use fusible interfacing like Eleanor Burns showed me (and thousands of others)

ReplyDeleteI think my favorite is the 2.5 inch strip.

ReplyDeleteI'm a new follower. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI love your Christmas Tree! I've subscribed to your posts.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite appliqué technique is needle turn. But machine appliqué is fastest.
ReplyDeleteI'm still very new to applique, so needle turn is really all I know thus far. Can't wait to learn more though!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite dies at the moment are really all the Sarah Vedeler dies. There's just so much you can do with them, and they save SOOOOOOO much time cutting!
ReplyDeleteWow!! This is an incredible give away!!Thanks for the chance to win!! My favourite die is the small tumbler...fast, easy and accurate and adorable!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas!
Paulette
My favourite applique technique is needle turn! Take care!
ReplyDeletePaulette
This tree is really gorgeous! I love the needle turn applique, but am not very good at it.
ReplyDeleteI think the best die is the Wedding Ring as it has all the pieces that fit perfectly together.
ReplyDeleteI already follow your blog.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite applique technique is to use a very narrow zigzag over the raw edge (I'm applique challenged when it comes to turned applique with hand stitching).
ReplyDeletethanks!
Favorite die is the GO Funky Flowers. I would never attempt to cut those myself; the GO dies are just so wonderful for applique shapes.
ReplyDeletethanks!
love your red and white tree!!
OMGosh that tree is beautiful....my husband really liked it also....my favorite appliqué is the spray starch method....I love the fact that it is ready to take and I use Roxanns glue so no pins when appliquéing...
ReplyDeleteI'm follower now.....
ReplyDeletemy favorite applique is hand stitching. hugs
ReplyDeleteI don't have a accuQuilt go...but I hope to get one soon it is on my xmas list..I think I would like the 5 inch block because I do a lot of Lil twister....
ReplyDeleteYou guys are making it really difficult not to want one of these. Love that tree. I'm not a follower because you are on my sidebar!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous tree!
ReplyDeleteThe only way I do applique is by fusing.
My favorite is to use fusible webbing and use a blanket stitch with my sewing machine. Thanks for the great giveaway! Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteThe stars die because stars are so versatile - 4th of July, Christmas, sports star, star student, etc.
ReplyDeleteI love fusible applique. - I wanna win!! :-)

ReplyDeleteI think Sarah's new heather feather dies are my favorite. Seriously. I have Rose of Sharon and Hearts and a few basics, but this one is really exciting!!
ReplyDeleteok...I'm going to follow along ;-) ..(the why on heather feather being my die of choice ...is that there is a lot of elements, and the shapes are very appealing to me)
ReplyDeleteok...I've 'SUBSCRIBED' too!! Thanks for the great giveaway!!
ReplyDeleteI love machine applique with a satin stitch. I love this project and would love to win the precuts. Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteThe feather dies are looking pretty fun to me! Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDelete~1 ~ favorite applique technique?
ReplyDeleteThe one I use is a freezer paper template with starch and my mini Clover iron.... works well for me!
~2~ best Accuquilt GO! die?
ReplyDeleteThe couple that I have are great... just may have to buy the feathers now!!! Love this project!
My favorite applique style is Machine embroidery applique. Second would be a top stitch applique technique.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite AccuQuilt die: Wow, do I really have to decide? I don't have just one. It would be whatever will make my current project move quicker. ;)
ReplyDeleteCherry, I saw this tree on Facebook and commented how fantastic it was. I thought Sarah V. and done the tree.
ReplyDeleteWow. Thank you for the tutorial!! I have the dies-my favorite Accuquilt die by the way.

I like to use freezer paper technique for applique.
ReplyDeleteI like the border dies for Accuquilt GO! The swirls, etc., look like they make it SO easy!
ReplyDeleteI am new follower. Glad I found you. Your work is stunning. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteSallyKingemail@gmail.com
I use to avoid applique at all costs. My Mother made the most beautiful applique quilts. All hand turned and done by hand with no thread showing. Just like it was part of the fabric. I use software to do my applique. My doing anything by hand days are gone. My last machine was an embroidery machine for that reason.
ReplyDeleteSallyKingemail@gmail.com
GREAT TREE!!! Love it. My favorite applique method is the one you showed, and also the one that Eleanor Burns uses, where you sew the iron on interfacing to the back and turn it, then press, so the edges are finished. I haven't tried needle-turned although a friend recommends it. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThere are many great GO! dies. I love the strip cutters because they are so much faster than rotary cutting, but also the Drunkards Path, Double Wedding Ring, Tumbler and Blazing Star are great.
ReplyDeleteI'm following your blog.
ReplyDeleteI just subscribed to your posts.
ReplyDeleteWish I would get some great ideas in the shower!!!

ReplyDeleteOH!!! I was looking thru your posts... LOVE THE COVERED BRIDGE from the photo in Lancaster County.
Love your work!
I use a glue stick to hold my appliques in place. The I either machine stitch them down or wait and quilt them in place. I have done some needle turn but I need loads more practice.

ReplyDeleteI change my mind about which die is the best every time I think about it. I think the alphabet dies are wonderful to personalize items. I also like the dies with the multiple squares for the ease of cutting more squares at once.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite applique is wool.. I don't have to worry about the edges!!
ReplyDeleteI love the quarter square triangle die. I wish they made a small version too.
ReplyDeleteWow, I just love this tree. My favorite applique technique is fusing. I usually apply a buttonhole stitch around the edges.
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite die is the hexigons. I love making eye spy quilts.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful tree! I like my 2" square die - great way to make my scraps usable!
ReplyDeleteI usually do machine applique but I really prefer the look of needleturn.
ReplyDeleteI am a happy follower. Really enjoy your art quilts and their various styles.
ReplyDeletelove the tree! If I had a go I would love the 2.5 inch border die.
ReplyDeleteLove that tree!! Hope you take lots of showers and keep coming up with great ideas like that one! I am a new follower. thank you for participating.
ReplyDeleteThat is way too cute! I haven't done much in the way of applique. I've done some by hand; but, it was simple and basic.
ReplyDeleteI think the Hexagon die would be the best because it sure would be easier to make hexies! :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm a new follower.
ReplyDeleteI subscribed via Reader. :-)
ReplyDeleteSometimes I think the best Go dies are the ones you want but don't have-lol. Honestly keep changing my mind on that one but am thinking ones with curved edges that get used a lot such as tumbler or rob peter... or sunbonnet sue - see I can't do this - need them all.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy needle turn applique. Fan4may at aol dot com

i don't feel very comfortable with applique (i should practice!) so i like reverse the best...
ReplyDeletei would LOVE the 5" square die - I would just cut all my scraps into that, and toss the smaller ones. it would be so much easier to organize!
ReplyDeleteif by subscribe, you mean RSS feed, then i'm subscribed! i do that instead of following, so i can't claim #3.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog, would love the chance to win. I like applique dies and I use bonding before I cut.

ReplyDeleteThank you for the precise instructions of the Christmas tree and what a cute design! I am in love with the 2 1/2" strip dye as I use it for making bindings. I recently purchased the AccuQuilter Go, so haven't too many pieces yet. Just subscribed to your blog. Finding your past postings interesting.
ReplyDeleteThat tree is absolutely gorgeous! You have so much cute quilts & ideas! I'm a follower now, although the follow gadget would work for me, so I'm following thru google reader.
ReplyDeleteI finally got the follow gadget to work for me! Woo! I've not attempted much of the applique as of yet, so I don't have a favorite applique technique yet. One of these days I'll give it a go!
ReplyDeleteI love my feathers die, I made a similar tree for SCG Christmas contest and it didn;t take long at all. I do like the new feathers but I really want the bird dies, and the ribbon dies.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a favorite applique technique, I am still learning them
ReplyDeleteMy favorite applique method is steam-a-seam, but with cutting away most of the fusible. Unfortunately it doesnt work too well with the GO!
ReplyDeleteI think the best die depends on what you want - Rose of Sharon for simple versatile flowers, 3" HST for matching with lots of other dies, double wedding ring because it's so much easier than cutting.
ReplyDeleteI follow you.
ReplyDeleteI am a follower.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite die is the 2.5 inch strip die

ReplyDeleteI love my Accuquilt 2.5" strip die because it's so versatile.. sashing, binding, borders. But I'd love some of the applique dies to play with :)

This has to be the most beautiful red and white anything I have ever seen - one of my favorite combos at Christmas. Right now my applique technique is fusing and then small applique stitch by machine. Thanks. KatheGTN at aol dot com
ReplyDeleteI believe the Heather Feather is the best - looks like a versatile die. Thanks. KatheGTN at aol dot com
ReplyDeleteLove your tree! Thanks for the tutorial.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite AccuCut die is the 2 1/2" strip. I use it a lot.

ReplyDeleteFor preparation:fusible webbing For adhering: blanket stitch
ReplyDeleteThe best Go die is the snowflake right now because it's winter and I would love to be using it! But after seeing what you dreamed up with the Heather Feather dies I would say it's a tie!
ReplyDeleteI like needle turn applique. I've done some fusible applique but find I usually make a mess. Practice needed I guess. And I do have a Go Baby so I guess it's time to practice. Thanks for a chance to win. Love your tree!
ReplyDeleteFollowing your blog!
ReplyDelete*I tried yesterday but was having issues so I signed up through blogger itself and added it there.
I think the hexagon die is the best because I love to make hexies and it makes them so simple to cut.
