  12. I am only just learning to applique so it's all a bit new. I prefer doing blanket stitch as I find needle turn really hard to master. My favourite die is the hexie, I use it to make hexies from my scrap. Linda

    ReplyDelete
  13. Oops think I should have split that into two comments...well I also like my HST die..LOL.

    ReplyDelete

  21. The tree is so beautiful and the tutorial is excellent! My favorite applique method is to use fusible web and then do a blanket stitch with my sewing machine, suggab

  22. I am a new follower and love what I see! Can't wait for your next post!

    ReplyDelete
  23. My favorite die would have to be the feather...now that I've seen what a beautiful tree can be created from it! Thanks for sharing!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I only do machine applique but I never thought about doing the quilting as part of stitching down the pieces so thanks for the idea! thanks for a gorgeous project and a great giveaway

    ReplyDelete
  25. I think the best die is the 2 1/2" strips and that is because I use it for binding strips. Thanks again.

    ReplyDelete
  26. This tree is the cutest thing I've seen using the Accuquilt dies - I love it! I've used almost every applique technique but my favorite is needle turn if I'm doing it by hand, the blanket stitch if it's wool, and machine applique for the quick, easy projects. Sorry - couldn't choose just one! blessings, marlene

    ReplyDelete
  27. The best thing about Accuquilt for me is the ease - I have arthritis in my hands so this makes a huge difference in what I can get done. blessings, marlene

    ReplyDelete
  28. Like to hand applique but machine is faster. Your tree is absolutely stunning!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. OMG, that is GORGEOUS! Red/white are my favorites, anytime of year!! That's the cutest thing I've seen using the AccuQuilt dies or anything else! My favorite applique techinque (right now) would be the blanket stitch. I'm getting ready to learn needleturn applique though (I hope!)

    ReplyDelete
  30. I love lots of the dies, but my favorite right now would be the circle die. I keep finding more & more uses for it make little things things for Christmas (pincushions, ornament finishing, coasters, etc). But I also love ALL the dies for applique - it's too hard to choose just one.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'm now a follower of your blog!

  32. I have subscribed to your posts. I would so love to win the pre-cuts!! Thanks for the chances!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. that TREE is AWESOME!! I was JUST about to make a LIST of wish list dies for my husband- WHO hasn't bought anything for me for christmas yet! THESE 2 are on my list now!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I love two different kinds of applique, I love needle turn but after getting the go I love to iron on appliques and using a button hole stitch!

    ReplyDelete
  35. so far the die I have that I use the most is the circle die- so versatile

    ReplyDelete
  36. I like to use starch and templates to make my applique pieces, and then stitch them down to the main piece. I am working now on circles, but I have another quilt's templates cut, just havn't got the quilt cut and ready..yet. I don't count that in my WIPs yet.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Well I would have said Ring of Oak, but after seeing this, I have to change my mind to Feathers!! WOWZA. I love this!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I subscribed to your blog posts.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I really like the raw edge applique but I am such a traditionalist, it stands to reason. I have taught myself two methods of needle turn applique and it is okay and very nice but for most of my quilts the raw edge works great.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I don't know if it is necessarily the best but it seems to be quite diversified so I choose the Heather Feather Die

    ReplyDelete
  41. I am a follower of your blog.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'm following....the Christmas tree wall hanging is stunning!

    ReplyDelete
  43. WOW! What a beautiful tree and tutorial! self taught and new to quilting this year, so this just blows me away! Found your blog only yesterday and signed up as a "follower"!

My favorite applique technique is the one that I currently use- fusible Pellon! (Have not attempted any other technique, so I hope that doesn't count against me! ;) )

    ReplyDelete
  44. I would have to say that my favorite die cut for AccuQuilt (which I do not own at this time) would be the 2 1/2 inch strip- must save lots of time cutting!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Until I read this tutorial, never understood the need for freezer paper in quilting- thanks for explaining that! just subsribed via Google Reader also.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I have been wanting to try applique for the longest time and plan too very soon....by machine is what I plan to try first.

    ReplyDelete
  47. THat is a gorgeous tree! How creative! I'd love the kit and die!

When I do applique it is usually needle turn..I"m not very proficient at it yet, but I do enjoy it.

    ReplyDelete
  48. The best die would be anything with curves...those would be so time consuming to do any other way, templates or cutting by hand. I like my perfect circles, my curvatious drunkards path etc... :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. The set of strip cutting dies would be my first choice of dies. So many things can be done with strips that speed up work....would be cut easier and more accurately!

  51. I enjoy needle turn applique.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Wow. What a beautiful tree and wonderful tutorial. Thank you so much.
I must honestly say that I can't answer your first question very well. I'm still new enough at coming back to sewing and in learning to quilt that I have done any applique other than with my machine embroidery designs. I'm very much looking forward to overcoming my fear of applique (and paper piecing too) in 2012.
Anyway, because of the lack of knowledge about applique and the different techniques involved, I can't give you an answer about which might be my favorite technique.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Your 'feather' tree is stunning!
I like machine applique, either with invisible thread or co-ordinating thread.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Since I use the tumbler die a lot, that is my favorite right now:)

    ReplyDelete
  55. The Accuquilt Go Die that I feel is the best is all of them :) Seriously though, I think that those which are cutting fabrics on the bias are best done using the Accuquilt Go because it lessons the chance of me stretching the bias on that piece. One that I really like because it can be hard/time consuming to cut, although I don't own it would be the hexagon die.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'm a new follower to your blog. I can't wait to look around more because if this tree tutorial is any example of your other tutorials then I will be back often.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I've also just subscribed to your post via Google Reader.

I would love to see an option to subscribe via email as well but don't see that. If I've missed that I'd love to know. Thank you

I hope you and your famliy have a wonderful holiday season.

    ReplyDelete
  58. My favorite applique technique is the one where the pieces are faced and turned. Sometimes I use tulle, sometimes the same fabric when I want to "puff it up some" and make more of a fabric relief ensemble, and sometimes I use fusible interfacing like Eleanor Burns showed me (and thousands of others)

    ReplyDelete
  59. I subscribed to you in Google Reader!

    ReplyDelete
  60. I am just learning to appliqué so I don't have a favorite process. I just want to learn everything about it.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I'm still very new to applique, so needle turn is really all I know thus far. Can't wait to learn more though!

    ReplyDelete
  69. My favorite dies at the moment are really all the Sarah Vedeler dies. There's just so much you can do with them, and they save SOOOOOOO much time cutting!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Wow!! This is an incredible give away!!Thanks for the chance to win!! My favourite die is the small tumbler...fast, easy and accurate and adorable!

    Paulette

    ReplyDelete
  72. This tree is really gorgeous! I love the needle turn applique, but am not very good at it.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I think the best die is the Wedding Ring as it has all the pieces that fit perfectly together.

    ReplyDelete
  74. My favorite applique technique is to use a very narrow zigzag over the raw edge (I'm applique challenged when it comes to turned applique with hand stitching).
    thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Favorite die is the GO Funky Flowers. I would never attempt to cut those myself; the GO dies are just so wonderful for applique shapes.
    thanks!
love your red and white tree!!

    ReplyDelete
  76. OMGosh that tree is beautiful....my husband really liked it also....my favorite appliqué is the spray starch method....I love the fact that it is ready to take and I use Roxanns glue so no pins when appliquéing...

    ReplyDelete
  77. my favorite applique is hand stitching. hugs

    ReplyDelete
  78. I don't have a accuQuilt go...but I hope to get one soon it is on my xmas list..I think I would like the 5 inch block because I do a lot of Lil twister....

    ReplyDelete
  79. You guys are making it really difficult not to want one of these. Love that tree. I'm not a follower because you are on my sidebar!

    ReplyDelete
  80. Gorgeous tree!
The only way I do applique is by fusing.

    ReplyDelete
  81. My favorite is to use fusible webbing and use a blanket stitch with my sewing machine. Thanks for the great giveaway! Merry Christmas!

    ReplyDelete
  86. ok...I'm going to follow along ;-) ..(the why on heather feather being my die of choice ...is that there is a lot of elements, and the shapes are very appealing to me)

    ReplyDelete

The couple that I have are great... just may have to buy the feathers now!!! Love this project!

    ReplyDelete
  92. My favorite applique style is Machine embroidery applique. Second would be a top stitch applique technique.

    ReplyDelete
  93. My favorite AccuQuilt die: Wow, do I really have to decide? I don't have just one. It would be whatever will make my current project move quicker. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  94. Cherry, I saw this tree on Facebook and commented how fantastic it was. I thought Sarah V. and done the tree.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I am new follower. Glad I found you. Your work is stunning. Thanks for sharing.
    SallyKingemail@gmail.com

    ReplyDelete
  98. I use to avoid applique at all costs. My Mother made the most beautiful applique quilts. All hand turned and done by hand with no thread showing. Just like it was part of the fabric. I use software to do my applique. My doing anything by hand days are gone. My last machine was an embroidery machine for that reason.
    SallyKingemail@gmail.com

    ReplyDelete
  99. GREAT TREE!!! Love it. My favorite applique method is the one you showed, and also the one that Eleanor Burns uses, where you sew the iron on interfacing to the back and turn it, then press, so the edges are finished. I haven't tried needle-turned although a friend recommends it. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  100. There are many great GO! dies. I love the strip cutters because they are so much faster than rotary cutting, but also the Drunkards Path, Double Wedding Ring, Tumbler and Blazing Star are great.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  108. I change my mind about which die is the best every time I think about it. I think the alphabet dies are wonderful to personalize items. I also like the dies with the multiple squares for the ease of cutting more squares at once.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  119. That is way too cute! I haven't done much in the way of applique. I've done some by hand; but, it was simple and basic.

    ReplyDelete
  120. I think the Hexagon die would be the best because it sure would be easier to make hexies! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  121. Sometimes I think the best Go dies are the ones you want but don't have-lol. Honestly keep changing my mind on that one but am thinking ones with curved edges that get used a lot such as tumbler or rob peter... or sunbonnet sue - see I can't do this - need them all.

    ReplyDelete
  140. I love my feathers die, I made a similar tree for SCG Christmas contest and it didn;t take long at all. I do like the new feathers but I really want the bird dies, and the ribbon dies.

    ReplyDelete
  141. I don't have a favorite applique technique, I am still learning them

    ReplyDelete
  142. My favorite applique method is steam-a-seam, but with cutting away most of the fusible. Unfortunately it doesnt work too well with the GO!

    ReplyDelete
  143. I think the best die depends on what you want - Rose of Sharon for simple versatile flowers, 3" HST for matching with lots of other dies, double wedding ring because it's so much easier than cutting.
